Dan Anyiam U-15 Soccer Tournament Set To Debut In Owerri

The maiden edition of the Late Dan Anyiam U-15 Soccer Tournament is set to make its debut in Owerri, the Imo State capital, as part of a strategic initiative to discover, nurture and develop emerging football talents.

The youth championship, named in honour of the late Dan Anyiam, one of the foremost iconic players of the Nigerian National Football Team, is being powered by Mr Anderson “WorldBest” Anyiam, Chief Executive Officer of WorldBest Pharmaceuticals, in a bid to further immortalize the name and enduring legacy of his late uncle.

The tournament is also designed to provide a platform for young footballers to showcase their talents while keeping them actively engaged during the holiday period.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Anderson Anyiam, a former professional footballer, pharmacist and founder of the Anderson Joe Anyiam Foundation and WorldBest Football Academy, emphasized the importance of catching young talents at an early age.

According to him, early identification and proper development remain critical to building the next generation of football stars, adding that the tournament will provide an avenue for young players to express themselves and attract the attention of talent developers.

“Catching them young remains the best way to discover and develop more talents. This is one of the reasons I decided to support this tournament. Beyond football, we also want to keep the young lads positively engaged during the holidays and give them an opportunity to develop their potential,” he stated.

Anderson Anyiam further disclosed that Hon. Engr. Donald Anyiam, the first son of the late Dan Anyiam, is expected to grace the tournament, while the Imo State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour.

He also called on youth football teams within the Owerri Municipal area and its environs to take advantage of the opportunity by registering to participate in the championship.

He pointed out that outstanding talents discovered during the competition may be given opportunities to join the WorldBest Football Academy, where they can receive further training and development as they pursue their football ambitions.
