New Ajax Signing, Arokodare Eyes Kanu's Legendary Legacy

 

Newly signed Ajax Amsterdam striker and Super Eagles forward Tolu Arokodare has set his sights on following in the illustrious footsteps of Nigerian football icon Nwankwo "Papilo" Kanu, declaring his ambition to carve out a legacy worthy of the Dutch giants' Hall of Fame.

The towering forward, who recently completed his move to the Eredivisie powerhouse, admitted he was inspired after seeing Kanu's photographs displayed around Ajax's famed training complex, a lasting reminder of the former Nigerian captain's extraordinary impact at the club.

Speaking shortly after touring the club's facilities, Arokodare revealed the moment strengthened his determination to succeed in Amsterdam.

"I was walking around the training facilities and saw some of his pictures. I said to myself, 'Papilo, that's what we call him.' It's nice to see a very familiar face, and hopefully my photos will end up on the wall here too," Arokodare said.

Kanu remains one of the greatest African footballers to have graced Ajax, having risen through the ranks to become a key member of the legendary side that conquered Europe in the mid 1990s. His exploits with the Amsterdam club laid the foundation for a glittering career that later took him to Inter Milan, Arsenal, West Brom and Portsmouth, while also inspiring generations of Nigerian footballers.
