Ahead 2027: Gov Otti Emerges Unopposed Abia LP Governorship Candidate

In a convivial and rancour -free atmosphere, His Excellency, Gov Alex Chioma Otti, of Abia State, on Saturday, May 30, 2026, was declared unopposed, the governorship standard bearer of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2027 general elections, in the state.

In a well attended governorship primary that was held at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, capital of Abia State, the National Organising Secretary of the party, who also served as the Returning Officer, Mrs. Oluchi Opara, declared Gov Otti, as the winner and therefore, the LP governorship candidate in the state. There was no challenger.

In the same vein, the Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, Sen Enyinnaya Abaribe, was declared the LP candidate for the district, for a sixth term bid.

The Senator had won his first term in 2007, and later defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). A few weeks ago, he  defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), but later pitched his political tent in the LP.

Similarly, Sen Darlington Nwokocha, secured the ticket for the Abia Central Senatorial District.

Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, who represents Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa South Federal Constituency, Hon. Amobi Ogah, also an incumbent; and other members of the LP in the House of Representatives also secured their return tickets unchallenged.

Members of the Abia State House of Assembly who are LP members had been given tickets to contest.

In a post declaration speech, Gov Otti thanked those present for their cooperation that led to his emergence, promising to sustain the tempo, making them proud in leadership and governance.

A real democratic process at work, we should say.
