Ikefe Marches On: Nigerian Defensive General Takes Command In Iraq

Former Plateau United FC defender Andrew Ikefe has once again underlined his growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s most travelled and battle hardened defenders, after completing a move to Jaish Sports Club of Iraq this 2025/26 season.

Ikefe’s journey is a story of steady rise, resilience and ambition. He first cut his teeth in the Nigeria Professional Football League, where he featured for Niger Tornadoes, Katsina United and Kwara United, earning plaudits for his no nonsense defending, tactical discipline and leadership at the back.

His exploits in the NPFL eventually opened the door to opportunities beyond Nigeria’s shores.

The rugged centre-back made a successful transition to Middle Eastern football, featuring prominently for Shabab Al Sahel and Al Ahed in Lebanon, two clubs known for their competitive pedigree on the continental stage.

His most recent spell with Diyala SC in Iraq further showcased his adaptability and experience in a demanding league.

Now, with his switch to Jaish Sports Club, Ikefe embarks on another chapter, bringing with him a wealth of experience across Nigeria, Lebanon and Iraq.

The move is seen as a statement of intent by Jaish SC as they bolster their squad with proven quality and defensive steel.

For Andrew Ikefe, it’s not just another transfer it’s a continuation of a career built on courage, consistency and the hunger to conquer new frontiers.
