Owerri Set For Football Fiesta As Countdown To ‘World Best’ Birthday Hits Fever Pitch
The countdown has begun in Owerri as the city braces for the birthday celebration of Anderson Anyiam, fondly known as “World Best.”
With just six days to the grand occasion, preparations are in top gear, promising a spectacle that will combine football, nostalgia, and celebration.
As part of the festivities, the prestigious Owerri Fitness Club (OFC) will lock horns with Selected Friends of World Best in a star-studded novelty encounter. The match, scheduled for Saturday, September 6th, at 7:30am, will take place at the training pitch of the historic Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
The celebrant, Anderson Anyiam—a former professional footballer turned pharmaceutical dealer—is no stranger to the game. Beyond his personal exploits, he carries a rich legacy as a descendant of the legendary Dan Anyiam, the first captain of the Nigerian national football team, who also coached the Green Eagles and the iconic Spartans.
Speaking ahead of the event, “World Best” who previously played professionally Ebedei, Ekiti United and Bussdor United revealed that several ex-internationals and football greats will grace the pitch to honour him. The roll call includes household names such as Olympic Games Gold medallist, Mobi Oparaku, Casmir Mbachu, Friday Onyeukwu (Ekpo), Ike ThankGod, and Sampson Chuki, among others.
“This is not just about football, it’s about gratitude, friendship, and celebrating life,” Anyiam affirmed. “Having these legends and friends join me makes the day even more special.”
Thanksgiving holds on Sunday September 7th, 2025 at the Christ Embassy, Ogbaku, Mbaitoli LGA, Imo State.
It is meant to round off the activities marking the birthday of the renowned pharmacist.
With the blend of football legends, passionate fans, and a festive atmosphere, Owerri looks set to witness a birthday bash that will be remembered for years to come.
