Teenage Sensation, Sule Strikes Again As Enyimba March Into Fed Cup Round of 16
Enyimba FC booked their place in the Round of 16 of the 2026 President Federation Cup after a hard fought 1-0 victory over Gombe United at the McCarthy Stadium, Makurdi on Monday.
The hero once again was red hot teenage sensation Sule Nelson, whose first half strike proved decisive as the People's Elephant overcame the Savannah Scorpions to continue their quest for national cup glory.
Backed by family, friends and travelling supporters, from near by Otukpo the prolific youngster maintained his remarkable scoring streak, calmly side footing home in the 21st minute after a well worked attacking move to hand Enyimba the lead.
Coach Emmanuel Deutsch Gustavo retained much of the side that swept aside El-Shama FC in the previous round, making only one alteration with Ekene Awazie replacing Ezekiel Edidiong in the starting lineup.
Enyimba controlled large spells of the encounter and nearly doubled their advantage before the break when Awazie raced through on goal following an intricate team move, only for the assistant referee's flag to cut short the celebrations.
The People's Elephant continued to create opportunities in the second half, with substitute Chidera Michael coming close on more than one occasion. The lively forward was denied by a combination of misfortune and last-ditch defending after finding himself in promising positions.
Despite Gombe United's efforts to force a way back into the contest, Enyimba's defence stood firm, showing composure and discipline to preserve the slender lead until the final whistle.
The victory sees Nigeria's most successful club safely through to the Round of 16, where they will face NPFL rivals Ikorodu City in what promises to be another thrilling Federation Cup showdown.
