Sule’s Treble Fires Enyimba Into Abia FA Cup Final
Enyimba FC booked their place in the Abia State Federation Cup Final in emphatic fashion after a thrilling 4-1 victory over Abia Comets in the second semifinal clash decided at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba on Thursday, April 23rd, 2026.
The People’s Elephant were inspired by a breathtaking performance from academy graduate Nelson Sule, who announced himself on the big stage with a sensational hat-trick, while fellow Enyimba youth product Samuel Okechukwu continued his meteoric rise with another classy goal to seal the dominant win.
The duo of Sule and Okechukwu, both graduates of the club’s development system and standout performers for the Enyimba U19 side in the NPFL Youth League, proved once again that Enyimba’s conveyor belt of talent remains one of the finest in the country.
Sule opened the scoring in the 13th minute, showing composure beyond his years after a perfectly weighted long ball from Emeka Onyema released him into space. The youngster kept his calm and slotted home coolly to put Enyimba ahead.
That lone strike separated both sides at the break, but the second half belonged entirely to the Nigerian giants.
Coach Emmanuel Deutsch’s tactical substitutions injected pace and purpose into Enyimba’s attacking play, as the introduction of Samuel Okechukwu, Obichere Odinaka and Issah Mohammed immediately shifted the momentum.
Sule doubled Enyimba’s lead shortly after, reacting fastest inside the box to tap in from Obichere Odinaka’s delightful cross, sending the home supporters into wild celebrations.
Abia Comets pulled one back in the 63rd minute to briefly raise hopes of a comeback, but Enyimba responded. In the 70th minute, Samuel Okechukwu restored Enyimba’s two goal cushion, producing a moment of finesse with a calm chip over the goalkeeper.
With Comets stretched and chasing the game, Sule completed his unforgettable day in the 80th minute, finishing off a brilliant counter attack to seal his hat-trick and confirm Enyimba’s passage to the final.
Enyimba will now face Ahudiyannem FC who eliminated Abia Warriors earlier in the day via penalty shootout in the grand finale on Sunday, in what promises to be a fiery rematch of last season’s final which Ahudiyannem won via penalties.
Both teams have also secured qualification for the National Federation Cup competition, but the battle for Abia supremacy remains the immediate prize.
For Enyimba, this commanding semifinal victory was not just about reaching the final, it was a clear statement of intent, driven by the club’s future stars.
Final Score:
Enyimba FC 4-1 Abia Comets
(Nelson Sule 13’, 52’, 80’; Samuel Okechukwu 70’)
