Imo Sports Commission Boss, Amb. Ogbonna Bags Prestigious Traditional Title

 


In recognition of his outstanding contributions to sports development, community service and philanthropy, the Chairman of the Imo State Sports Commission, Hon. Prince (Amb) Eleazar Onyewuchi Ogbonna FINCA, JP, has been conferred with the revered traditional title “Onwa Eji Amatu Ebeobibi Ndi Imo I.”


The colourful ceremony took place on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the palace of His Royal Highness, Eze A.C. Enyinaya (Nzeukwu I), the Traditional Ruler of Obinze Autonomous Community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, has continued to attract eulogies and good wishes from dignitaries, friends, associates and community leaders celebrating the honour bestowed on the former professional footballer and international business mogul.


The conferment, performed in accordance with the Traditional Rulers and Autonomous Community Law No. 11 of 1981 and the Obinze Autonomous Community Constitution, was formally announced through a certificate of recognition signed by HRH Eze A.C. Enyinaya.


“I, Eze A.C. Enyinaya, the Nzeukwu I and Traditional Ruler of Obinze Autonomous Community, Owerri West LGA, Imo State, Nigeria, by virtue of the powers conferred on me under Section 17 (1) and (2) of the Traditional Rulers and Autonomous Community Law No. 11 of 1981 and in accordance with the Obinze Autonomous Constitution Law, do hereby confer on you, Hon. Dr. Sir Chief Prince Eleazar Onyewuchi Ogbonna, the title ‘Onwa Eji Amatu Ebeobibi Ndi Imo I’ in recognition of your services to the community and in appreciation of your sterling qualities.”


The royal father described Amb. Ogbonna as a worthy ambassador of Imo State whose impact in sports administration, youth empowerment and humanitarian services has continued to resonate across communities.


The event was marked by resounding applause, glowing tributes, as well-wishers described the honour as well deserved, noting that the Imo Sports Commission boss has remained a strong advocate for youth development and community progress.


Reacting after receiving the title, Amb. Ogbonna expressed deep gratitude to the traditional ruler and the entire Obinze Autonomous Community for the recognition, pledging to remain committed to service.

“I am deeply humbled by this honour from His Royal Highness and the good people of Obinze. This title is not just a recognition but a call to greater service. I will continue to dedicate myself diligently to the development of my community, Owerri West Local Government Area, Imo State and Nigeria as a whole,” Ogbonna said.


He further emphasized that leadership and recognition should always translate into greater responsibility toward society, particularly in empowering young people through sports and development initiatives.
