Elephants Seek Maximum Points As Bayelsa UTD Storm Aba
..Ogunga Rallies Faith & Focus Ahead Showdown
Fresh from a gritty away draw in Lafia, the People’s Elephant are back home, backs straight and eyes fixed firmly on maximum points as they welcome Bayelsa United to the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, this Sunday in a crucial NPFL Matchday 24 encounter.
For the nine-time Nigerian champions, this clash is more than just another league fixture. It is a golden opportunity to climb the table, restore home dominance, and complete a league double over the Yenagoa side after securing victory in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.
Standing at the heart of Enyimba’s belief is Kevin Ogunga, the Yenagoa born goalkeeper who once guarded Bayelsa United’s post, but now dons the famous blue of Enyimba FC. Speaking with Enyimba Media, Ogunga made no attempt to downplay the importance of the tie, describing it as a must-win affair.
“After the draw at Lafia, we are motivated by that point because it wasn’t easy after covering that distance,” Ogunga said.
“So next Sunday here in Aba, we are up against Bayelsa United my home team and we believe we can get the maximum points.”
The former Bayelsa United shot-stopper was clear-eyed and professional about facing his old club, stressing Enyimba’s collective hunger and renewed spirit.
“As a professional, my job is to stop them from scoring despite the fact they are my former side. We want the fans to remain supportive,” he added.
“It hasn’t been easy with points dropped at home, so we call on them to be prayerful. We assure them the team has bounced back and is ready for victory come Sunday.”
Historically, the numbers lean Enyimba’s way. In 17 recent meetings, the Aba giants have recorded 7 wins, while Bayelsa United have 4 victories, with 6 draws separating the sides a reminder that nothing comes easy when these two meet.
But this Sunday, driven by belief, buoyed by faith and hard work, Enyimba FC are determined to roar again.
