UMU IGBO UNITE CARES DELIVERS SIGNATURE PROJECTS IN IMO SCHOOLS

The memories of May 16,2025,will continue to linger in the hearts of students of Government Technical College, Ikenegbu Girls Secondary School and Owerri City School, as a Non-Governmental Organisation under the aegis of Umu Igbo Unite Cares UIU-Cares, delivered mouth watering signature projects in their respective schools.

The NGO whose core mandate is to put smiles on the faces of people, particularly the less privileged and down trodden in the society, rehabilitated the dilapidated electronics laboratory of Government Technical School GTC, Owerri with modern equipments, constructed a 10-room modern sanitation facility with over head tanks, thereby bringing to an end the issue of students going to uncompleted buildings in the school and its' surroundings to answer  the call of nature while the school is on.

Similarly, the organisation increased the reading culture of students of Ikenegbu Girls Secondary School who are known for excellence in science subjects in the state.

UIUCares, refurbished the school library by donating book shelves, chairs and reading tables making the library more attractive, convenient and conducive for reading.

That was equally followed by the upgrade and equipment of the ICT Center with State- of-the Art  computers carting away the obsolete computers they met there, which made it possible for the students to be in tune with others and to compete favourably with their fellow students in any part of the world as far as ict is concerned.

During the commissionig of the project by the Commissioner for Education, one could read from the face of the students  joy and happiness  that has envloped them.

Owerri City School was not left out, as 9 classrooms that were in bad condition were seemingly renovated.

Commissioning and handing over the legacy projects,lmo State Governor Sen.Hope Uzodinma, represented by the Commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education, Prof.B.T.O. Ikegwuoha, commended Umu Igbo Unite Cares, a Non-Governmental Organisation based in Enugu for donating modern computers, rehabilitating Ikenegbu Girls Secondary School library, equpping the electronics workshop at GTC and renovatig 9 classrooms at Owerri City School, stressing that education like security is not the business of government alone, adding that it is is for every body paricularly the stakeholders.

He opined that government can not do it alone, adding that other non governmental organisations should emulate Umu Igbo Unite Cares and replicate what they have done or even do more better.

Fielding questions from journalists shortly after handing over the projects, the project manager of the humanitarian group, Dr Chika Onyeanu, disclosed that umu Igbo unite Cares is NGO domiciled at Enugu, who are into humanitarian community service works,pointing out that their core mandate  is to put smiles in the faces of people, especially the down throdden and less privileged in the society.

He regretted that most of the public schools in the South East are facing dilapidated structure, unequipped facilities and host of others, revealing that his organisation visited these schools, saw the level of dilapidation and decided to intervene.

He went further to disclose their 4 focus areas, which includes;health care accessibility, Education, wealth creation and relief.

He went own to disclose that the the NGO recently fed some communities in Umuahia Abia State as part of their relief programme, adding that many youth have benefitted in their apprenticeship programme under wealth creation.

He used the medium to express gratitude of Umu Igbo Unite Chapters for their support on different projects, amongst them are,Ms Angela Nwandu, Ms Adaobi Gwacham, Mr Chido Amuzie, Mr Osita Nwakoby, Mr Evans Nwankwo, Mr Chuma Ekwueme, Dr Victor  Okeh and Ms Chinwe Ohanele.

One of the students interviewed who spoke on grounds of anonymity, thanked the NGO for providing a conducive reading environment for them, while that of GTC said that the issue of sharing meter and other equipments during electronics practical is over, he thanked the NGO for coming to their rescue.

The Commissioner for Education was accompanied  to the handover ceremony by some other key staff of the education sector,amongst them were,Dame Augustina Azubuike Executive Secretary Imo State Secondary Education Management Board SEMB, Dr Josephine Agim,Director Planning Research and Statistics SEMB, Dr Clara Oparanozie,Director of Schools Owerri zone 1, Mrs Ify Udenkwo Director Administration and Finance SEMB, and Rtn.Pascal Njoku the Public Relations Officer of SEMB amongst others.
