Imo To Host National Council On Finance & Economic Development

The Commissioner for Finance and Coordinating Economy, Mr Chuck Chuckuemeka  has revealed that the State is nearing preparations to host the National Council for Finance and Economic Development (NACOFED) in this month of August 2026.

Mr Chuckuemeka made this known while conducting a team from the council, who were on verification visit to the State round some major venues and locations for the meeting.

The Finance and Coordinating Economy Commissioner stated that His Excellency the Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma in his characteristic hospitality has approved the hosting of the Council meeting in the state and has released logistics for a smooth exercise. He   further pointed out that the 4 day event will feature Arrivals/Opening Ceremony, Council Deliberations and culminating with the monthly Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting in the State. Commissioner Chuckuemeka enumerated some of the strategic and economic benefits accruable from hosting the Finance Council, which will attract the presence of the Minister for Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Mr.Taiwo Oyedele, who is the Chairman of NACOFED and FAAC, the Accountant General of the Federation, All Commissioners of Finance from the 36 States of the Federation and their Accountants General, Chairman of the Revenue Service and Heads of other Revenue Agencies of the Federation.

In his remarks after going round the proposed venue and facilities, the Chairman of the National Committee Team from Abuja, Asiwaju Asiru Idris thanked His Excellency the Governor for accepting to host this year's Council Meeting. Asiwaju Asiru who is also the Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning of Kogi State appreciated his Imo State counterpart and his team for demonstrating readiness and assured them that he will say good of the State to the Honourable Minister. 

Other members of the visiting team were the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development Prof. Leonard C. Uguru, Director from the Federal Ministry of Finance, Abdullahi Umar Ackaliri and some Protocol Officers from the Federal Ministry of Finance.

Commissioner Chuckuemeka together with his Digital Economy counterpart Dr. Chimezie Amadi, Commissioner for Tourism Barr. Ernest Ibejiakor, the Principal Secretary to the Governor Dr. Mrs Irene Chima, Deputy Chief of Staff Dr. Ken Ikpe, the Accountant General of Imo State Dr. Linus Okafor and the SA to the Governor on Event Management Mr. Bright Nwelue and the visiting team later held an appraisal meeting after the inspection and scored the State ready for the hosting.
