Clout In The Clinic: When Social Media Forgets Patient Privacy

   

                

Ezzycare College has come boldly with justifications following its decision to suspend one Mrs Joy Eze, a twenty-six-year-old trainee of Ezzycares College enrolled for an eighteen months vocational program. Mrs. Eze has barely spent seven months into her training course before she reportedly roped herself into a recent conduct involving a widely circulated video of a hospital she described as being in a deplorable state as Controversies have arisen regarding the justification of Ezzycare's action of suspension. 

Mrs Eze, it must be clearly stated, is not a nursing student but a vocational health trainee who is supposedly undergoing trainee’s instruction. While students and trainees in such health industry are encouraged to be observant and inquisitive, such curiosity must be exercised within the framework of established professional guidelines. 

So many trainees found of questionable characters including Mrs. Eze attached to General hospital have at one point or the other been suspended due to issues relating to ethics of health profession or due to pending investigation.  The case of Mrs Eze is a fraction and basically for the fact that she significantly deviated from professional ethics.

It is most unfortunate that many who do not have knowledge in the ethics of health practice are spitefully dragging the matter in directions that suits their diminished imaginations on social media.

Consequently, the government of Enugu State, which has a deeper understanding of the internal operations of private institutions and of the health sector has come out to issue A disclaimer that Mrs. Eze is neither a student of any Enugu State-owned health institution nor an employee of the State Civil Service. And that her suspension was clearly due to a breach of Ezzycares institution’s code of conduct, or internal administrative matter within a private institution. Therefore, this matter has no bearing whatsoever on the Government of Enugu State as most mongers suppose. The Government cannot middle in affairs of disciplinary processes of a private institution.

A closer examination of the facts reveals that Ezzycare’s actions were not only justified but necessary to preserve the ethical standards expected within the healthcare profession based on the following facts:  

Rather than formally document her observations and report them through the appropriate supervisory channels, she chose to record and publish a video on social media. This act not only breached institutional protocols but also raised serious ethical concerns regarding patient privacy, misrepresentation of facts, and the responsible handling of sensitive healthcare environments.

In furtherance of her evil plot to tarnish the image of a reputable institution like Ezzycares College, she illicitly recorded an administrative discussion with her by the school administrator and posted on social media ostensibly to blackmail. This act of interception of personal discussion without consent clearly violates the rights of the persons involved, thereby breaching the Cybercrimes Act (2024).  Not only that, the actions indicates that Mrs Eze had motif ab initio:  to violate the institution’s code of conduct, and intentionally violate the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in her chase for social media clout. 

Even more troubling are allegations that the claims made in the video were exaggerated and are significantly unfounded. Without verifiable evidence or proper authorization, such public assertions risk misleading the public, damaging the reputation of healthcare institutions, and eroding trust in the system as a whole. 

Ezzycares College has hinted that its decision to suspend Mrs. Eze was not an act of suppression but a measured and necessary step to allow for a thorough investigation into the matter. Suspension, in this context, serves as a standard administrative procedure designed to ensure objectivity while the facts are carefully reviewed. 

Healthcare training institutions bear a profound responsibility to instill discipline, discretion, and ethical awareness in their students. The actions of one individual, particularly when they involve potential misinformation and protocol violations, cannot be overlooked or excused under the guise of content creation or public engagement. 

By taking decisive action, Ezzycares College has reaffirmed its commitment to producing professionals who understand not only the technical aspects of healthcare but also the moral and ethical responsibilities that accompany it.

As the investigation proceeds, the college has called for calm and urged the public to avoid drawing premature conclusions. Upholding standards in healthcare education is not optional. It is essential. 

In times like this when digital platforms amplify unverified claims, institutions must remain steadfast in defending truth, professionalism, and accountability. The public must also engage in proper verification of facts rather than fabrications of so-called bloggers.
