Obichere Rallies Enyimba For Fiery Oriental Derby Showdown With Kun Khalifat

In what promises to be a classic game at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba this Sunday, the People’s Elephant are set for a pulsating Oriental Derby against rising neighbours, Kun Khalifat FC, in a crucial Matchday 28 clash of the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Buoyed by their commanding display against league leaders Rivers United, Enyimba head into the encounter with renewed belief and growing momentum as they look to climb further up the table and ignite the month of March with a statement victory.

For defender Obichere Odinaka, the fixture carries extra emotion. The young centre-back, who featured for the Owerri-based

“Pride of Imo” during the first stanza of the season, understands the threat posed by Sunday’s opponents. But sentiment, he insists, will be set aside when the whistle blows.

Speaking after Friday’s training session, Obichere delivered a passionate rallying cry to teammates and supporters alike.

“I want to sincerely thank our fans for their unwavering support,” Obichere told Enyimba Media. “We are very ready for this game. Our spirit in camp is very high.”

“Yes, I was with Kun Khalifat during the first round and they are a good side, very competitive. But on Sunday, we are going for the maximum points. We know what is at stake and we are fully prepared.”

The reverse fixture in Owerri earlier this season saw Kun Khalifat hand Enyimba their first league defeat of the campaign, a result that still lingers in memory. Sunday therefore presents not just an opportunity for valuable points, but also a moment for response.

With this being the final closed-day fixture at the Enyimba International Stadium this season, the nine-time champions will be eager to reward their faithful with a dominant performance.

Technical Adviser, Coach Emmanuel Deutsch will also be targeting his first victory at the helm of the People’s Elephant, as the Aba giants intensify their push up the NPFL standings.

Derbies are never short on intensity, and with pride, momentum and table positioning all on the line, Sunday’s showdown promises fireworks.

The Elephant are stirring.

The message from Obichere is clear. Three points and nothing less.
