Yuletide: Colour, Culture, Community Spirit Light Up Ozara Cultural day As Guests Raise Over N10m

It was a day of joy, jubilation and rich cultural display as the Ozara Cultural Day Celebration took centre stage at Ozara Central School, Ozara, on Saturday, January 3, 2026. The atmosphere was carnival-like, blending funfair excitement with deep-rooted tradition as sons and daughters of Ozara came together to celebrate their heritage.

The annual event, which continues to grow bigger and better each year, attracted an impressive lineup of special guests and respected personalities—the crème de la crème of the community. Among those in attendance were Dr. DCN Obioma Okorie (Nwa ji Ugo Nnaya), popularly known as the “Dangote of South East,” Chief Valentine Ikepuama, members of the Ngaobidi family, village heads, chiefs, elders, vibrant youths, and other notable dignitaries who graced the colourful occasion.

The 2026 Ozara Cultural Day was held under the chairmanship of Hon. Alphonsus Okike, fondly called “Alpha we know,” and was meticulously organized by the Ozara Progressive Union (OPU), led by its President General, Mr. Kingsley Azarama.

In his address, the President General expressed profound gratitude to the organizing committee for a job well done and thanked all attendees for their overwhelming support. He gave special appreciation to donors whose generous contributions significantly boosted community development efforts. Notable among them were Dr. DCN Obioma Okorie and Hon. Alphonsus Okike, who each donated ₦1,000,000, while the Ngaobidi family collectively contributed over ₦1,000,000. In total, donations at the event reportedly raised about ₦10,000,000 for the community.

Mr. Azarama described the event as a testament to unity and progress, applauding everyone for making the celebration colourful and memorable. He passionately appealed to all Ozara citizens, both at home and in the diaspora, to continue working together to set Ozara firmly on the path of sustainable development.

The event also featured the presentation of awards of honour and certificates of recognition to deserving Ozara citizens in appreciation of their contributions to community growth. A major highlight was the official launching of the town union’s brochure, showcasing the history, achievements and future aspirations of Ozara.

Adding glamour and excitement to the celebration were captivating cultural dance performances by various women’s dance groups, who thrilled guests with energetic and traditional dance displays. The appearance of masquerades further spiced the occasion, drawing cheers and admiration from the crowd as they added colour, mystery and cultural depth to the festivities.

Indeed, Ozara Cultural Day 2026 was more than a celebration—it was a powerful reminder of unity, heritage and collective progress, leaving lasting smiles and fond memories for all who attended.
