Confidence Restored As Eguma's Elephant Tramples On Pillars In Aba

After three agonizing defeats on the bounce, Enyimba FC roared back to life in grand style with a commanding 2–0 victory over arch-rivals Kano Pillars in a fierce NPFL Matchday 11 showdown at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.

The People’s Elephant produced a spirited first-half performance that sent the home fans into wild jubilation.

Lanky striker John Bassey finally broke his goal drought in the 29th minute, nodding home Ufere Chinedu’s delightful cross to open the floodgates. Moments later, Edidiong Ezekiel showed composure beyond measure—rounding the Pillars’ keeper after a precise pass from Bassey—to slot home Enyimba’s second and seal the win before halftime.

In the second half, the nine-time champions showed tactical discipline, absorbing pressure and defending resolutely. Goalkeeper Kelvin Ogunga and defender Fabian Nwaorie combined to produce a breathtaking double save that kept Enyimba’s clean sheet intact.

An elated Coach Stanley Eguma praised his players for their fighting spirit and mental resilience:

“I’m very happy — this is what we expected from the boys. The team’s spirit was down after three losses, but they showed character and heart today. I commend them for this performance; it’s a victory that will surely bring back confidence.”

On Bassey’s long-awaited goal, Eguma added:

“We were patient with him, and now that he’s broken the jinx, we hope he continues scoring.”

Looking ahead to next weekend’s fiery Abia Derby against Abia Warriors, the gaffer promised another bold outing:

“It’s always fierce when we meet Abia Warriors. They’re a good side, but this win gives us the confidence to fight harder and avoid dropping points away again.”

With the victory, Enyimba FC climbed to 6th on the NPFL table with 16 points, while Kano Pillars continue to struggle at the bottom.

The Elephants march next to Umuahia — confidence restored, spirit rekindled, and eyes fixed on more victories!
