Imo Governor’s Daughter Celebrates Teachers, Offers Scholarships To Law Students

 

It was a celebration of passion, gratitude and vision as Dr. Prada Uzodinma, daughter of the Governor of Imo State, unveiled her inspiring pet project — the “Dear Teacher Campaign” — at Rockview Hotels, Owerri, last week.

The campaign, described by many as a heartwarming tribute to the backbone of education, aims to spotlight, reward and uplift teachers who serve selflessly, especially those in remote communities.

Speaking Dr. Uzodinma said the “Dear Teacher” initiative was born out of her deep passion for human capacity development and a desire to give back to society.

“I was trained by a good teacher and that foundation shaped who I am today. Society often says a teacher’s reward is in heaven, but I believe it is time we start bringing a piece of that heaven to them right here on earth, she said.

She emphasized that the program specifically targets teachers working in challenging environments — those who often go unnoticed, but continue to nurture the next generation of leaders.

“I decided to do the extraordinary — to identify teachers at their lowest, those away from the spotlight and give them the recognition and encouragement they deserve,” she added.

Two exceptional educators were recognized at the event: Mrs. Uchenwoke B. Chika and Miss Abigail K. Nzerem, both from Akatta Secondary School, Oru West LGA. They received resource packages and incentives to support their continued impact in the classroom.

Thus the he event also showcased beneficiaries of the Prada Uzodinma Imo Indigene Scholarship Grant (PUIISG) — a scheme supporting Imo-born law students. Two Imo State University (lMSU) Owerri Students who were celebrated for their academic excellence and dedication.

In their tributes, the beneficiaries thanked Dr. Uzodimma for her generosity and vowed to uphold the values of excellence and service that inspired the initiative. They also called on other well-meaning individuals to emulate her example in supporting quality education across Imo State.

Endorsing the campaign, Professor Bernard Ikegwuoha, Imo State Commissioner for Education and Hon. Emeka Mandala, Commissioner for Youths and Talent Hunt, described the “Dear Teacher Campaign” as a “transformational idea” that should be institutionalized.

Dr. Prada Uzodimma, while thanking guests and stakeholders for their support, pledged that the Dear Teacher Campaign would not be a one-off gesture, but a sustained movement, even after the end of her father’s tenure as governor.

“This is not about politics — it is about purpose. Teachers lit the torch that guided us all. Now, it is time to let that light shine back on them", the humanitarian maintained.

With “Dear Teacher,” Dr. Prada Uzodimma may have just ignited a new culture of educational appreciation and human development in Imo State — a campaign that could redefine how Nigeria celebrates its classroom heroes.
