Enyimba U-19 Coach KingJoe Akuma Rues Costly Errors, Eyes Redemption Against Plateau United

Enyimba FC U-19 head coach, KingJoe Akuma, has lamented his side’s 0-2 defeat to Kwara United U-19 in their opening Group A encounter of the N-Youth League Cup Super 8, currently taking place at the iconic Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.

Speaking to Enyimba Media moments after the final whistle on Monday, the young tactician cut a disappointed figure but remained optimistic of his team’s chances going forward.

> “Two errors in the midfield cost us the early goals,” Akuma explained. “When we adjusted and settled, we took the game to them. But hitting the net was our greatest undoing.”

Despite dominating large spells of the match, the Aba-based youngsters were made to pay for their early lapses, a reality their gaffer admits stung hard.

> “We played better than them in most periods of the game, but our finishing wasn’t sharp enough, and that summed up our day. That’s football for you — cruel but full of lessons.”

With the loss now firmly behind them, Coach Akuma revealed that the focus has swiftly shifted to their second group game against Plateau United U-19, which is scheduled for Tuesday at 8:00 a.m., also at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.

> “My boys have put the result behind them. We’ve learnt our lessons and are fully focused on tomorrow’s game,” he said. “We promise to raise our game and fight for the win to keep our hopes alive.”

The match against Plateau United is now a must-win for Enyimba U-19 if they hope to stay in contention for the title and showcase the depth of talent brewing in the People's Elephant youth ranks.
