COACH OMEKA LEADS SAM-NELLY FC TO ANOTHER TITLE IN BENIN REPUBLIC
Imo State born gaffer, Daniel Omeka, has etched his name in the sands of time after guiding Sam Nelly FC to Benin Republic Female Premiership League title in the just-concluded 2024/2025 season.
Omeka, who only joined the Porto Novo-based side as Technical Adviser in November 2024, masterminded an impressive campaign that saw Sam Nelly overcome heavyweights of Beninese women’s football to clinch the crown.
Speaking moments after their title clinching match, a visibly elated Omeka said: “This means the world to me. Coming into a new environment and achieving this in my first season is beyond words. The girls gave their all, and I’m proud of every single one of them. We’ll celebrate this, but the work doesn’t stop here. Next season, we’ll be aiming even higher.”
Omeka’s rise has been both steady and inspiring. He was part of the technical crew of Heartland Queens who secured promotion to the NWFL Premiership in 2022, a feat that marked him out as one of the most promising young tacticians from the Southeast, Nigeria.
After a brief spell with First Mahi FC, Omeka took charge of Fr Eburuaja FC, a modest non-league side. Under his guidance, they recorded a fairytale run to the Round of 32 in the 2023 President Federation Cup, where they bowed out gallantly to top-tier side Doma United.
The Ideato tactician’s tactical acumen was further displayed with Emmanuel FC, who he led to the Imo State League final and subsequently secured promotion to the National League after a grueling playoff series.
From working behind the scenes in Nigeria to becoming a title-winning coach abroad, Omeka’s story is one of resilience, vision, and tactical brilliance.
As Sam Nelly basks in the glory of their historic league triumph, attention now shifts to how Omeka will strengthen the squad for next season’s challenge, with continental football now firmly on their radar.
