SWAN Boycotts Imo FA Activities Over Unresolved Issues
Imo SWAN has suspended it's members form covering activities of the Imo State Football Association over unresolved issues.
According to a release made public, sports writers body also called on NFF to call the Imo FA Boss, Barr Ifeanyi Dike who is at the center of the shinenigans to order.
The release reads as follows;
"The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State Chapter, wishes to notify the general public, football stakeholders, and the broader sports community of its decision to suspend coverage and participation in the activities of the Imo State Football Association (FA) under the leadership of Barr. Ifeanyi Dike, effective immediately.
"This difficult decision follows a series of unresolved misunderstandings and actions that have created a strained relationship between the association and members of the sports media community in the state.
"Key Issues of Concern:
1. Withdrawal of Media Partnership:
The SWAN Chairman, Mr. Cosmos Chukwuemeka, was recently informed by Barr. Dike that the Imo FA had decided to end its media partnership with SWAN, which includes the association’s use of the FA office space for its monthly congress meetings.
2. Restricted Media Access:
During the NPFL fixture between Heartland FC and Kano Pillars, some of our members were denied access to designated press areas at the Dan Anyiam Stadium. This situation unfortunately led to a tense atmosphere and unnecessary disruptions to our members’ professional duties.
3. Public Remarks and Misunderstandings:
Certain public remarks made by the FA Chairman during and after the said matchday were viewed as disrespectful by some of our members. We believe these statements may have stemmed from misunderstandings, but they have contributed to growing concerns.
4. Concerns Over Conduct Involving a SWAN Member:
Of particular concern was a comment reportedly made by the Imo FA Chairman during a recent function in Ngor Okpala, where our member Ahize Anthony felt personally threatened. While we believe this may have arisen from heightened emotions, we urge that such exchanges be handled with caution and mutual respect, especially among professionals committed to sports development.
Our Stand:
SWAN Imo is committed to promoting sports and football development in the state. However, mutual respect and open communication between stakeholders are essential. Until we can engage in constructive dialogue and resolve the aforementioned issues amicably, we regret to announce a withdrawal from Imo FA events and activities.
We reaffirm our commitment to professionalism, fair reporting, and the growth of football in the state. Our objective remains to work in unity with all sports institutions and leadership, fostering progress through collaboration and accountability.
